John H. Kersey ’60

John H. Kersey ’60, M.D.,of St. Paul, Minnesota, died on March 10, 2013. John matriculated at Dartmouth after graduating from Washburn High School in Minneapolis in 1956 along with classmate Tom McBurney. Following Dartmouth John attended the University of Minnesota Medical School, graduating in 1964. He was a longtime faculty member of the Minnesota Medical School, where he was a pioneer in pediatric leukemia care and research. He was also the founding director of the University of Minnesota Cancer Center. John loved his family, profession, cabin on the north shore of Lake Superior, world travel and the boundary waters of northern Minnesota, where he took more than 50 canoe trips into the Quetico National Forest. He is survived and greatly missed by his wife, Anne; children Charlie, Meg and Tim; brother Gene; and four grandchildren. A memorial service was held at the Minnesota McNamara Alumni Center on March 21, and memorials may be made to the John H. Kersey Chair in Cancer Research (Fund 1149) at the University of Minnesota Foundation.
