John Day Bricker ’52

John Day Bricker ’52 of Columbus, Ohio, passed away on August 17, 2014. He was born August 7, 1930, in Columbus, was a 1948 graduate of the Columbus Academy and graduated from Dartmouth, a member of the class of 1952. At Dartmouth Jack majored in geography and was a member of Sigma Alpha Epsilon, Bait & Bullet and Dartmouth Outing Club. He served in the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers from 1954 to 1956, did some agricultural work and then earned a law degree from Ohio State University Law School in 1962. He was employed with Bricker and Eckler LLP and Galbreath Realty, both in Columbus. Jack’s father, John W. Bricker, was a partner in the law firm, a three-term governor of Ohio and two-term senator from the state. For a period of time Jack moved to Vermont and Florida to practice law before returning in later years to the Columbus area. He was a Mason and an avid fisherman, hunter and horseback rider. Always an outdoorsman, his favorite place in the world was Lake Temagami in Ontario, Canada. His children Claudia, John W., Susan, Lara and William, their spouses and six grandchildren survive him. His stepchildren, Victoria and Clinton, and their families also survive him, as does his former wife, Marilyn, who cared for him the past 10 years.
