James H. Lothrop ’57

James H. Lothrop ’57 of Loveland, Ohio, passed away on May 24. Jim came to Dartmouth from West Hartford, Connecticut, where he graduated from Carlisle High School. A Tuck-Thayer double major in engineering and business, he was a brother and president of Phi Delta Theta and a member of the Interfraternity Council and Green Key Society. He served on the College Athletic Council and as football manager, was active in intramural athletics, and was in the Army ROTC, where he was on the drill team. He had a long career at Procter & Gamble, including international assignments as employee relations manager in Germany (1973-76) and personnel manager in Canada (1976-79) before returning to the head office in Cincinnati, where he was division personnel manager international. Dartmouth was important to Jim. He served as alumni fund volunteer, class agent (1962-68), and fraternity agent (1988-93). Most of all, Jim treasured his relationships—with God, family, friends, coworkers, neighbors, and even with those people who needed help who he met through unexpected daily encounters (Habitat for Humanity). A tribute from a friend says it all: “Jim was one of the most humble, thoughtful, giving, and encouraging people I ever met. I am so thankful for how he has displayed Jesus to so many of us.” He is survived by Ginny, his wife of 60 years, as well as sons Donald, David, and Randall; daughter Linda; and many grandchildren.
