Harry Wells Heap Jr. ’52

Harry Wells Heap Jr. ’52 passed away on August 21, 2017, in Phoenix, Arizona, where his family has a long history. Harry, the great-grandson of Arizona pioneer statesman Edmund William Wells, was born on October 9, 1929, in New York City. Raised and educated on the East Coast, Harry attended the New Hampton School in New Hampshire before enrolling at Dartmouth. He majored in government and was a member of Phi Gamma Delta. He was an NROTC student and served as an officer in the U.S. Navy during the Korean conflict. Harry then spent 30 years with the Mobil Oil Co. before retiring, first to Maine and then, in 2011, back to his family roots in Arizona. In 1952 he married Mary Edwards of Edwardsville, Pennsylvania; they had children John and Allison. After Mary’s passing in 2013, Harry spent his last years enjoying the companionship of Dorothy Drumond. He also is survived by five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
