Gordon Alexander Thomas ’49

Gordon Alexander Thomas ’49 died on December 24, 2012. “Punchy” came to Dartmouth from Rye (New York) High School. After getting his law degree at Columbia, Punchy spent the bulk of his career as vice president and general counsel of ITT Continental Baking Co., and lived in Rye. Upon retirement, he and his wife, Doris, moved to Norwich, Vermont. After Doris passed away, Punchy married Pat and moved to West Lebanon, New Hampshire, where he unexpectedly died in his sleep. The class sends its deepest sympathy to Pat and his daughters Krista Corr ’86 and Alix Jenkins. Punchy probably did more for the class of 1949 than any other classmate. He was involved in the mini-reunions for more than 40 years and hosted the reunion Sunday brunches at his homes with Doris and then Pat. He was on the class executive committee for the last 30 years and served as secretary and then president for most of the 1970s. Nobody had more close friends in the class than Punchy. He will be missed.
