George W. Scott Jr. ’63

George W. Scott Jr. ’63, from a Dartmouth family, died of leukemia on September 7, 2023, at the M.D. Anderson Cancer Center in Houston. He was born in Queens, New York; grew up in Westport, Connecticut; and attended Staples Senior High School, where he played baseball, soccer, and track and worked for the magazine and yearbook. At Dartmouth George majored in English, lettered in soccer, and was active in the Dartmouth Outing Club and Zeta Psi. After graduation, he was active as an admissions interviewer, regional club officer and president, and alumni councilor. He was district enrollment director of southwest Connecticut and was named the Dartmouth Officer of the Year in 1991. He graduated from Yale Law School in 1966 and practiced law for more than 50 years in Greenwich, Connecticut, and later in University Park, Florida. In Connecticut he served as state attorney trial referee, for which he received honors. Always an advocate for community and neighbors, George led the effort to close the Cos Cob Power Plant in the 1970s and, as president of the Riverside Association, championed the refurbishment of the Riverside Railroad Station when it was destroyed by fire. He served as captain of the frostbite fleet for the Riverside Yacht Club and was an officer on its race committee. George is survived by his wife of 59 years, Kitsy; three children (including two Dartmouth graduates); and five grandchildren.
