George C. Bingham ’47
George C. Bingham ’47 died at his Belmont, Massachusetts, home on June 13, 2014, after a long illness. He was born in Cambridge, Massachusetts, grew up in nearby South Lincoln and attended Belmont High School. He was assigned to Dartmouth in the naval V-12 program and served as a naval aviation ordnanceman from 1943 to 1946. In college he majored in history. He went on to graduate from Gettysburg College in 1950. He attended Western Maryland College and Columbia University Graduate School of Business. He worked in the television industry in New York City from 1951 to 1956 before moving in 1961 to Boston, where he founded New England Spot Sales, which sold advertisers time slots on TV and radio. He was a founding member of the National Association of Television Arts and Sciences and a member of the Broadcast Pioneers International TV/Radio Society and the New England Broadcasting Association. He retired in 1997. He had an abiding interest in European and American history and was a longtime member of the Society of the Mayflower Descendants and the Sons of the American Revolution. He was active in civic affairs and through Kiwanis served on the board of directors of Camp Allen, a New Hampshire camp for disabled persons of all ages. He valued his honorary membership in Tri-Kap, served on the class executive committee from 1957 and served as class necrologist and memorial book chairman. He is survived by a daughter and his wife of 47 years.
