Franklin X. Loeb ’60

Franklin X. Loeb ’60, M.D., died on July 16, 2015. He lived in Galloway, New Jersey. He was born in Hempstead, Long Island. His parents, Franklin and Millicent Xander, raised him in Somerville, New Jersey, where he met his wife of 53 years, Marjorie Stires. Love of family, religion, service to his country, education, pediatrics and the arts filled his life. Following Dartmouth Frank studied medicine at Temple University and Cooper Hospital. He served his country as a Navy lieutenant commander and as a mobile Army surgical hospital surgeon in Vietnam. His many awards for service included the Navy Commendation Medal, Purple Heart and a Presidential Commendation. His professional career included early years working at Bethesda Naval Hospital, as chief neonatologist at Ochsner Clinic in New Orleans, and as head of pediatrics and neonatology intensive care in Atlantic City, New Jersey. He was highly regarded for his private pediatric practice in Absecon, New Jersey. Frank was active in his church, serving for many years as an elder at Absecon Presbyterian Church. His full professional life and community engagements did not prevent him from developing his aesthetic side. He became an accomplished photographer and musician, as well as an author. Frank is survived by his wife, Marjorie, daughter Virginia, son Christian and three grandchildren. He was laid to rest in a service at Absecon Presbyterian Church on July 23, 2015.
