Drew Cutter Sleeper ’52

Drew Cutter Sleeper ’52 passed away on July 22 in Fort Worth, Texas. Drew was born on March 8, 1930, in Bronxville, New York, and came to Dartmouth after graduating from Kimball Union Academy. Drew left College in his junior year to join the U.S. Air Force and proudly served his country for 30 years, retiring as a lieutenant colonel. While in the Air Force Drew completed his Dartmouth education with a degree in economics in 1964. He was a member of Phi Sigma Kappa. He later earned an M.B.A. at Ball State University in 1974. Drew was a pilot in the Air Force, initially flying the F-86 super jet and later the B-52 Stratofortress bomber during the Vietnam War. After his military career Drew worked for the city of Abilene, Texas, and, with his wife, owned a successful retail store until retiring in 1999. He married Evelyn Chesbro from Sherbrooke in Quebec, Canada, on December 27, 1952. In March 2016 Drew lost his wife of 63 years and he had resided near his family at Ridgmar Place retirement center in Fort Worth for the past three years. He is survived by daughter Leslie and her husband, Tim; daughter Jennifer and her husband, David; daughter Shelby and her husband, Jeff; seven grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. Drew was buried with full military honors at the Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery on August 16.
