Dorsey Richard “Dick” Reynolds ’52

Dorsey Richard “Dick” Reynolds ’52, M.D., passed away in Newport, Oregon, on May 16. Dick was born in San Francisco on March 9, 1931; graduated from the Thacher School in Ojai, California; attended Dartmouth College for three years; and then served in the U.S. Army from 1952 to 1954. At Dartmouth he was a member of Kappa Kappa Kappa. He completed his undergraduate degree at the University of California, Berkeley in 1956, graduating Phi Beta Kappa. Dick received his medical degree from the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF) in 1965, completed his residency in ophthalmology in 1968 and spent the next three decades practicing medicine in the San Francisco area. During those years he was also clinical professor of ophthalmology with UCSF’s resident and medical student teaching programs, retiring in 1996. In 1993 he moved to Carmel, California, with his wife, Marianne, and their daughter, Christine, and in 2003 he and Marianne relocated to Newport. Dick was an expert skier and he ran five marathons. During retirement his most fulfilling work was as a volunteer counselor with Senior Health Insurance Benefit Assistance, where he educated seniors about health insurance-related issues. In 2011 he received the Oregon Governor’s Volunteer Award for his service. He is survived by Marianne; children Roselyn ’77, Richard, Karen, Douglas, Stephanie, and Christine; 10 grandchildren; and one great-grandson. His brother, Ralph ’44, predeceased him.
