Donald L. Kope ’51

Donald L. Kope ’51, a career U.S. Air Force officer, died on October 12, 2021, in Merced, California. Don came to Dartmouth from Youngstown, Ohio. He majored in mathematics and was a member of Delta Upsilon. Following graduation he joined the Air Force and served for 24 years as a pilot, retiring as a lieutenant colonel and as wing director of operations. As a retiree he earned a business management degree at California State University and became a self-employed tax consultant. He was an active volunteer in his home community of Merced, most notably in his church, where he was a member of the liturgical council and longtime head usher. Don also served as a volunteer tax aide for the AARP and as a Little League coach. Family, antique furniture restoration, and golf were also great sources of enjoyment.
