David E. Hunt ’75
David E. Hunt ’75 of Portland, Maine, died on July 31, 2018, in nearby Lewiston. He will be remembered as one of the brightest and most easygoing members of the class. His son, Tom, and several class members have remarked on his wit, sense of humor, intelligence, and generosity. He came to Dartmouth from the Peddie School, where he graduated summa cum laude, was named salutatorian, and served as student body president. At college he continued his study of Latin, including Catullus, Martial, and Lucretius under Professor Edward Bradley. David majored in history and government, graduating magna cum laude. He was the general manager of WDCR. David developed a long list of friends and supporters while at Dartmouth. David graduated from the University of Chicago Law School in 1978, and began his practice at what is now Debevoise & Plimpton in New York City. He moved to Maine in 1981 and worked at Pierce Atwood in Portland, practicing trusts-and-estates law there until 1992, having become a partner in 1986. Since he moved to Maine, David was a member of the Church of St. Mary the Virgin in Falmouth. His 1976 marriage to his high school sweetheart, Denise, ended in divorce in 1984, and his 1987 marriage to Elizabeth ended in divorce in 2012. He is survived by children Christopher, Alexandra, and Tom.
