Daniel Marvin Nafie ’59

Daniel Marvin Nafie ’59 passed away on December 31, 2011, in Grass Valley, California. He entered Dartmouth from Clifford J. Scott High School in East Orange, New Jersey. In high school Dan was a talented athlete, co-captaining the football and basketball teams and playing varsity baseball. At Dartmouth Dan played on the freshman football team before leaving the College after his freshman year. He joined the U.S. Air Force and then was employed by Motorola Corp. in Georgia and rose to vice president of two-way communications. He retired after 25 years with Motorola. After 30 years of marriage, Dan’s wife, Carol Lee, passed away in 1994. After he remarried, he lived in Las Vegas for three or four years until his wife, Sakae, passed away. Dan moved to Grass Valley to be near his oldest daughter, Danielle. Dan enjoyed skiing and fishing. He was a huge golf enthusiast and was a strong player. When he became ill with progressive supranuclear palsy he moved in with Danielle. He suffered with this progressively debilitating disease for several years before succumbing to it. His two daughters, four brothers, a sister and six grandchildren survive him.
