Daniel Lisle Hall ’79

Daniel Lisle Hall ’79 died on July 17. Dave, who was born on June 2, 1957, in Montebello, California, lived in Florida, Philippines, and New Jersey before settling in North Conway, New Hampshire, prior to entering fourth grade. He went on to become captain of his school’s downhill ski team, valedictorian of his high school class, and the classmate voted “most likely to succeed” by his peers. At Dartmouth Dave (also known as “Emmett” by his many college friends) was on the ski team as a freshman and taught at the Dartmouth Skiway for the next three years. He held leadership roles in the DOC, where he served as winter sports chair and as a member of the club’s board of directors and its Winter Carnival council, and in Alpha Chi as vice president. Dave was also a respected member of the College’s Casque & Gauntlet senior society. After graduating with a bachelor’s in economics, Dave spent more than 35 years in the financial services industry, including senior roles at the Chicago Board Options Exchange, Kidder Peabody, Plexus Group, and Wilshire Associates. Dave and his wife, Rinda, lived in Culver City, California, with their twin 14-year-olds, Bodhi and Indira. He is remembered by high school friends as ambitious and focused, yet humble, good-hearted, and kind, and by Dartmouth classmates as “compassionate and devoted to family and friends” with a “welcoming personality, wry sense of humor, and natural leadership.” Rest in peace, Emmett.
