Loren Karacki ’57 died suddenly of complications from multiple system atrophy on April 29. “Larry” had been living in Rockville, Maryland, at the time of his death.
Ray Sylvester Parsons ’57 passed away on January 15. He had been living in Crossville, Tennessee, at the time of his death. Ray came to Dartmouth from Spirit Lake, Iowa.
Melvin “Mike” Leighton Battles III ’57 passed away at his home in Norwalk, Ohio, on February 4. He had been suffering from prostate cancer and congestive heart failure. He was a lifelong resident of Norwalk.
Henry “Sandy” Crumbliss Jr. ’57 passed away on June 7, 2009, in Lookout Mountain, Tennessee. After graduating from Baylor School in Chattanooga, Tennessee, Sandy came to Dartmouth from Lookout Mountain.
Thomas Merton DeWitt ’57 passed away on September 7, 2011. He had been living in Eden, Vermont, at the time of his death. He came to Dartmouth from Tunkhannock, Pennsylvania, having graduated from Wyoming Seminary.
George C. Van Dusen III ’57 of Eden Prairie, Minnesota, and Scottsdale, Arizona, died on February 7. He came to Dartmouth from Millbrook Prep School in New York.
Dongkyu “Don” Bak ’57 died May 15, 2011, at the Riddle Memorial Hospital in Media, Pennsylvania, where he had lived for many years. Don was born in 1930 outside what is now known as Pyongyang, North Korea.
Robert J. Eigen ’57 passed away on August 26, 2011. He was living in Palm Beach, Florida, at the time of his death. He had also maintained a home in New York City. Bob came to Hanover from Lawrence, New York.
David Hutson Kittell ’57 died on August 26, 2007, in Burlington, Vermont, from emphysema. He attended Cardigan Mountain School and Proctor Academy before spending two years at Dartmouth.
James Edward Nevitt ’57 passed away on May 19, 2011. He had been suffering from Parkinson’s disease. At the time of his death he was living in Everett, Pennsylvania.
Richard M. Newkirk ’57 of Northville, Michigan, passed away peacefully on October 7, 2011. His health had been declining for several years with emphysema. Dick had proudly served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.
