Charles Bernard Carpenter ’55 died September 30, 2011, after a struggle with Alzheimer’s disease. As a premedical student and Rufus Choate Scholar, he attended Dartmouth Medical School as an undergraduate, subsequently receiving his M.D.

John George Demas ’55 died August 12, 2011, at the home of his daughter Cindy in Queensbury, New York. John graduated from Glens Falls (New York) High School as president of his class and received a degree from Dartmouth as well as an M.B.A.

Donald Park Mix ’55 died at St. Francis Hospital in Hartford, Connecticut, on January 24, 2011. Don came to Dartmouth from Worcester Academy in Massachusetts.

Blake Warren Irons


Blake Warren Irons died on December 18, 2010. He came to Dartmouth from Alexandria, Virginia, and Williston Academy. As an undergraduate Blake was a member of Phi Sigma Kappa and served WDBS as an Ivy League representative and business manager.

William Alexander Ross died June 24, 2010. Bill graduated from West High School in Rockford, Illinois. At Dartmouth he was a member of the bank, ROTC and rifle team while earning a Tuck-Thayer degree.

Mordecai Shepard Jackson ’55 died January 5, 2010. He attended Classical High School in Worcester, Massachusetts, prior to Dartmouth. Shep majored in mathematics and was an active member in the DOC.

Rex Maharg Martin ’55 died on July 5, 2010. He lived in Colorado and graduated from Grand Junction (Colorado) High School. At Dartmouth Rex majored in government and was a member of the Prelaw Club.

Jay C. Whitehair Jr. ’55 died unexpectedly on December 13, 2010, when involved in a pedestrian/vehicle accident. Jay entered Dartmouth from Kimball Union Academy, living at that time in Scarsdale, New York.

Allen Eugene Palmquist ’55

Allen Eugene Palmquist ’55 died on February 4 following a brief battle with cancer. Always a Missourian he came to Dartmouth from Maplewood-Richmond Heights High School. The Green Book says he was called “The Palm” but later preferred Allen.
