John Byrd Chafee ’55 died June 27 at his home in Denver. John came to Dartmouth from South High School in Denver and graduated with a major in English.
Lane Woodworth “Woody’ Goss ’55 died on May 6. He is survived by sons Charles ’84, Philip ’89 and Edward, Tu’86. His wife, Nancy, passed away in 2007. Woody entered Dartmouth from Worcester Academy in Massachusetts.
James Whitney Hall III ’55, M.D., passed away on March 28 at his home in Medford, Oregon. Jim came to Dartmouth from Traverse City High School in Michigan. He took premed courses and was a member of the track team and Sigma Nu.
Richard Theodore Bueschel Jr. ’55 passed away March 24 in Vero Beach, Florida. A native of Plainfield, New Jersey, Dick came to Dartmouth from Plainfield High School.
Nelson C. Nicholson ’55 died November 2, 2015, in New Haven, Connecticut. Nelson came to Dartmouth from West Haven High School. He majored in sociology and was a member of Sigma Phi Epsilon and the Pre-Law Club.
Richard James Hastings ’55, M.D., died December 31, 2015, in Woodstock, Vermont, after a yearlong struggle with cancer. Dick came to Dartmouth from Groton (New York) High School.
James Clark Mickle ’55, M.D., died September 22, 2015, after a long battle with brain cancer in Ross, California. Jim came to Dartmouth from Chadwick School in San Francisco. He was a premed student majoring in chemistry-zoology.
William Ruston Carter Jr. ’55 died on November 5, 2011, the College recently learned. Bill came to Dartmouth after graduating from the Rivers Country Day School in Weston, Massachusetts.
Theodore Ely Jr. ’55 died July 26, 2015, at his home in Holyoke, Massachusetts. He came to Dartmouth from Providence Country Day School, living at that time in Rumford, Rhode Island.
Ronald Otto Himberg ’55 died on May 10, 2015, in Manlius, New York. He attended East High School in Syracuse, New York, prior to entering Dartmouth. “Dutch” majored in electrical engineering and was a member of Kappa Kappa Kappa.
