Class Note 2002

November-December 2026
Class Note 2002. Greetings, ’02s! In the spirit of many of our shared Dartmouth-era outdoor adventures, a group of ’02s from all over the country—Gordon Ehret, Derek Hansen, Sky Kalkman, Tom Nichols, Steve Sliva, and Frank Yoshida—all gathered on the glacier-clad slopes of Mount Rainier for a long weekend of Tom (Portland) and Frank (Seattle) showing off the best that the Pacific Northwest has to offer! It was great to see everyone again after many years and life adventures between them.
Scott MacArthur checked in to share: “I recently caught up with Doug Heitner and am happy to report the man has not changed—at all—even down to each and every exasperated sigh. I hope all are well!”
First-time contributor Dara Lee Luca writes in from the Washington, D.C., area, where she lives with her husband, Mike (a fellow economist), their three boys, and Cavapoo Yoshi. By day, Dara is the head of safety data science at Reddit, but navigating the independent school admissions process with her older kids recently inspired her to build two tools to help families in the same boat: ISEE Coach (iseecoach.com), which provides adaptive, science-backed test prep with analytics, and Numbercade (numbercade.com), a set of evidence-based games leveraging her background as a Ph.D. economist to help kids navigate the “math cliff” into fractions and pre-algebra. Check them out if you have students in STEM or test-prep mode!
Reunion planning committee member Brett Quimby sent in a fun update from abroad: “My family and I moved to Panama for work and an exciting new chapter in our lives! If anyone has a layover and can extend or wants to visit, let me know—we’ll show you around.” Brett adds that he is very excited to see everyone in Hanover next summer, noting his top reasons for going back: unexpected reunions with people he hasn’t seen in a while, reminiscing about trips (canoeing was the best, right?), showing his family around campus to explain why the Choates were the best dorms, and, of course, taking a nap in the Tower Room—just like old times!
Whether you’re climbing mountains, catching up with old friends, or launching new ventures, keep those updates coming—and keep saving the date for our 25th reunion: June 18-20, 2027!
