Class Note 1985
Issue
November-December 2026
Class Note 1985. It is amazing that the class has three members currently on the Dartmouth board of trustees: Sue Finegan (a vice chair, no less), elected 2020; Joyce Sackey, elected 2021; and the newest trustee, Bill Tyree, elected 2026. Twenty-six total trustees and 12 percent from our class—impressive! I’m not even sure if I’m on the board of trustees of my own family—I’ll check the bylaws and report back.
After hearing the news about Bill’s election, I swiftly checked my two go-to sources for information. From the Freshman Book, it struck me Bill was open to numerous name options: William, Bill, Brophy, Broph, even Billy—lots of choices there. From LinkedIn, I noticed Bill has been with Brown Brothers Harriman for more than 41 years, starting in August 1985. Now that’s incredible on its own. Picture the first day of new employee orientation and Bill thinking, “Yeah, I can see myself here for the next 40 some years,” or the HR director asking, “What exactly is this kid’s name?” Whatever roads led them there, thanks to Bill, Sue, and Joyce for representing our class in fine fashion.
A quick search suggests that 230,000 people in the United States have the last name Jordan, and certainly it would be Michael that comes to mind, likely first and foremost. However, I submit to you that it’s time to be like Glenn. Our own Glenn Jordan responded to my previous referee question, cementing a couple of truths: At least one classmate read that column and at least one also has officiating experience. A true multi-talent in the pickleball world, Glenn is simultaneously a player, an official, and the author of Pickleball Magazine’s rules column. Of late, Glenn officiated and played in the U.S. Open Pickleball Championships in April in Naples, Florida, and this summer officiated 27 professional pickleball matches across four days in Chicago to kick off the Major League Pickleball championship series, which wraps up in late October.
Going forward, Glenn shares, “The U.S. Legends Pickleball League just completed its drafts earlier this week. Now I know I’ll be returning to the Boston Dragons in the 16-team division of age-50-plus folks and joining the Carolina Coyotes in the new 60-plus division (which consists of six teams). The season kicks off in September in Columbus, Ohio, and wraps up in late January in Columbus after stops in St. Louis, Missouri; Atlanta; and northern Virginia. All matches should be live streamed on the league’s YouTube channel. Our website can be found by searching for uslegendspickleball.” Paddle up, Glenn!
From our word-fill correspondent comes this ponderance: If you were a beer, what kind would you be? I’ll start and say a shandy for me—light, refreshing, good mix of popular flavors. If that doesn’t get you to write in, what will? Happy fall, everyone.
