Class Note 1966

Issue

November-December 2026

Class Note 1966. Classmates continue to contribute to their communities and live fascinating and productive lives. Latest examples include the following.
Joe Allen, a Worcester, Massachusetts, lawyer for 52 years, chaired the Shrewsbury, Massachusetts, planning board for 18 years and was a leader in the Episcopal church parish and diocese. After retirement, when Joe and Nancy moved to Newport News, Virginia, he has continued his church and civic involvement and is president of the Kiwanis Club.
For 27 years now semiretired lawyer Dave Tucker and his wife, Pat, were Food Runner volunteers, loading their Plymouth minivan every month with a ton of food and hauling it “from places of excess to places of need in San Francisco.” These days, Dave reports, “Pat and I only make episodic trips in our slimmed down Prius—but we still get the same lift of spirit as in days gone by.”
Bill Todd started reading Russian literature at Dartmouth and has never stopped. He picked up an M.A. at Oxford and a Ph.D. at Columbia, taught at Stanford, and then settled in at Harvard in 1988. He’s taught Russian, English, and French literature of the 18th to 20th centuries, published books on Pushkin, and was dean of undergraduate education for four years. Now, as Harvard professor of literature, emeritus, Bill is “pursuing my Dartmouth-born love of Russian literature and culture with reading and writing.” Although travel to Russia is not likely soon, Bill and Eva plan trips soon to her native Norway and to their daughter’s family in Los Angeles.
George Valley’s life has three enduring threads: Marcy, his wife of 57 years; his career in industrial chemical manufacturing, which continues at the Aerospace Corp., where he is a senior scientist specializing in photonics and optical compression sensing; and the clarinet, which he played as a principal in the Dartmouth concert band and still plays in amateur chamber music groups in Southern California.
Our sympathies to the family and friends of banker and community leader John Arnold and investment advisor Jonathan White, who recently passed. More on each at dartmouth66.org and the online DAM.
