Class Note 1950

Issue

November-December 2026

Class Note 1950. Joel Leavitt says, “Not a lot to report. I’m still enjoying a great summer here on the Cape with my wonderful family and still playing some golf and tennis. We go to the Berkshires next week for our annual trip to hear the Boston Symphony. I’m looking forward to our trip to Hanover in the fall to meet with you, Rebecca, Doug and Meredith Smith, and whoever shows up. Hope you are doing as well as expected considering our age—with luck I turn 97 on our mini-reunion weekend.” (Note Joel is the youngest member of our class.)
Bill “Carp” Carpenter returned in mid-August from a fun-filled six days in Rochester, New York, with his family there: son, three daughters, and families—including 12 great-grandchildren. The oldest, Ryan, graduated this year from Hamilton College; his sister is entering her sophomore year there next week; great-granddaughter Julia is entering her junior year at John Paul the Great Catholic University; and her sister Theresa will be a frosh at Catholic University in D.C. “It’s unbelievable they are growing up so fast,” says Carp’s wife, Terry. Bill adds: “The garden did well. Terry and I kept busy clearing the weeds.”
I am looking forward to rejoining our local thespian group The Traveling Players in a busy fall program of appearances. Another group I play with (brushes on the snare drum), The Golden Tones, keeps me on the go entertaining various senior groups throughout the area. Not sure how much longer I can do it with a 98th birthday coming up.
