Class Note 2011
Issue
September-October 2026
Class Note 2011. No one wrote in with updates for this issue, so I randomly selected names from our class list to see what our classmates have been up to. Here are the ones I found most interesting who have not made an appearance in Class Notes recently (or ever before!)
Sarah E. Frostenson is currently based in the D.C. area and works as assistant editor for visuals for the New York Times’ Washington bureau. Sarah previously worked for The Washington Post as a deputy national visual enterprise editor and then a politics and democracy visual enterprise editor. Before that, she worked as a FiveThirtyEight senior politics editor and Politico graphics editor.
René Zelaya majored in engineering sciences and worked as a software engineer for a decade before going to nursing school. He now works as a registered nurse at the Yale Health Center. Nearby, Linda Li serves as an assistant professor in radiology at Columbia University Irving Medical Center. Linda is part of the division of neuroradiology, and her research spans head and neck imaging as well as neurovascular imaging.
In Minnesota, Janna Fennell—whose last Class Notes update was in 2013!—is in the Minneapolis area and has been working as a licensed therapist (specifically a licensed professional clinical counselor). Also in Minneapolis is Julia Floberg, a cellist, songwriter, and music teacher. An hour and a half away in Mankato, Jidi Gao is a radiologist at the Mayo Clinic Health System.
In browsing LinkedIn, I stumbled across Josh Labove, whom Julia and I worked with as an usher at the Hop. Josh graduated with us in 2011 but with a master’s degree in geography. He now lives in Meriden, New Hampshire, and works as the director of enrollment management at Kimball Union Academy after spending about a decade away from New Hampshire in Vancouver, Toronto, Baltimore, and Madison, Wisconsin. I signed up for Josh’s holiday cards some years ago and was excited to see that he had returned to New Hampshire. Neil Basu, who is based in the Bay Area, also worked as an usher with us, and he returned to LinkedIn as a people analytics manager in 2024 after taking a few years to travel and explore.
Abroad, we have Tomáš Jagelka, an associate professor of economics at University of Bonn in Germany. He is also stateside as a visiting scholar-lecturer at Dartmouth! Tomáš describes himself as “an applied microeconometrician in the fields of labor economics and health economics with interests in structural estimation, experimental, and behavioral methods.
Also abroad is Tanaka Mhambi, who relocated from Los Angeles to Zimbabwe during the pandemic. Tanaka is currently the founder-CEO of the African Lending Hub, “a marketplace lending platform created with the goal of efficiently allocating capital to small- and medium-sized businesses to unlock their full potential as drivers of sustainable economic and social development on the continent.” He is also the cofounder of Entry Ex Tigere Housing Co., which is a “housing microfinance and low-income mortgage provider.”
That was a lot of trawling through LinkedIn. If anyone would like to write in with personal or whimsical content for Class Notes, please do!
