Class Note 1993

Issue

September-October 2026

Class Note 1993. Two avid adventurers and a kid walk into a library… no indecent punchline, just Andrew Weber bringing his son to see Pete McBride’s presentation for Pete’s new book Witness to Water: One Photographer’s Mission to Defend the Colorado River. The publisher’s website describes “what begins as an assignment close to his childhood home transforms into a 20-year odyssey …. By packraft, on foot, and from the cockpit of his father’s small plane, McBride bears witness to the river’s grandeur—and the staggering scale of its exploitation.”
Pete’s website, petemcbride.com, is also well worth the browse—his dedication to nature is awe inspiring, and he has been justifiably honored for his photography, filmmaking, writing, and public speaking. Finally, Pete now holds the title for newest first-time dad in our class: He and partner Heidi welcomed daughter Maggie this April. Cheers!
Andrew shares more than a lasting Dartmouth friendship with Pete: He is also an experienced adventurer and author with a new book on the horizon. Andrew relayed that his Visit With Respect guidebook to southeast Utah’s Bears Ears and Cedar Mesa will have its second edition released by FalconGuides this summer. Both books share a profound love of and respect for our country’s great outdoors: Pete’s traces the plight of the Colorado River and Andrew’s the “archaeologically rich landscape of canyons and mesas on the Colorado Plateau.”
Continuing with career news, Erik Ochsner recently wrote in that “in addition to his freelance conducting career, he became music director of the Youngstown Symphony Orchestra in northeast Ohio. He still runs the Sonos Chamber Orchestra in New York City, which he founded in 2001. He loves to catch up with classmates along his tours, find him on Facebook, Instagram, and his website, ErikOchsner.com.”
A spring mini-reunion brought Courtney Molloy Chessen, Tara (Burke) Vold, Sarah Mackie, and Melissa (Bromberg) Fass together to relive old memories and create new ones. Also reconvening were three freshman-year roommates—at their children’s Dartmouth graduations! As Rachel Byrne posted, “When we were freshman-year roommates in Zimmerman 36 years ago, Tammy (Tamara Fagell Sloan), Jenny (Jennifer Evans Bilchick), and I never imagined that someday we would have kids in the same class at Dartmouth! Simon, Nicole, and Nathan graduated as ’26s on Sunday!”
Congratulations to our other ’93s with ’26 graduates: Sally Huntoon VitaliandMike Vitali (daughter Lucy), Doug Chia (daughter Madeline), and Jim Keating (daughter Meg).
Finally, give a rouse for our ’93s who are about to become parents of ’30s and enjoy watching their children fall in love with Dartmouth: Munir Haddad (daughter Penelope), Elise Sheftel Warhaftig (son Ethan), Chris Pollack (son Larkin), Nicole Rabner (daughter Andie Kanarek), and Jon Leizman (son Matthew).
