Class Note 1969. It’s not often that we spend Father’s Day with a scholar discussing the American Constitution. Thanks to Arthur Fergenson, who has moderated more than a hundred of our “Casual Conversations,” we welcomed professor Eric Berger of the University of Nebraska. Steven Horowitz arranged the visit and merits our appreciation. You may recall that Arthur is himself a distinguished attorney who clerked at the U.S. Supreme Court.
In other news, the indestructible Peter Schaeffer regaled us regarding his work keeping our Sunday AA Zoom group afloat—a technology challenge we all seem increasingly to confront. Bruce Alpert continues to have more baseball tales than the Yankees have players on the injured list this season. At this writing he’s headed to Berlin for another international cardiology conference.
We continue to receive your inspiring essays and reminiscences about our families in WW II and our generation’s adventures in Vietnam—too many to list by name! Please send Tex your reflections and brain droppings for the archive.
More than 200 classmates have joined in Zoom meetings, essay writing, mini-reunions, movie nights, social hours online, and play readings—undoubtedly a Dartmouth record! We also have pledged support for scholarships and continue to be the strongest group of old farts ever to roam the girdled earth.
Our lively email listserv still needs your support. If you dropped off years ago, we ask you to rejoin so we can hear from you. A recurring ’69 theme is the remarkable number of lasting friendships born since the 50th among folks who hardly knew one another back in the day. Now is the time to catch up!
We have lost track of a few classmates, including the likes of Guy Ryder, John Laird, and Chris Stillbach. Last news from J.L. was from North Carolina, and Chris still has his personal Walden on Deer Pond in New Hampshire. Shake the trees and help us reconnect with classmates who are off our radar.
Brian Flesser recently passed. We knew each other only through the class email list in recent years, but we became fast friends. I will miss him greatly.
