Class Note 1995

Issue

July-August 2026

Class Note 1995. When my daughter committed to San Diego State, the first person I contacted was Candice Chao. Candice and her husband, Daryl Marshall ’93, live in Carlsbad, California. She writes: “My older son, Chayce, is at Dartmouth, hanging out with Corey and Ben Hirokawa’s son Dylan. Daryl works at Mastercard and I’m at Tide Rock and we’re all enjoying the California sun and Pacific Ocean. We’ve had some fun outings with other Dartmouth alums lately.”
From Northern California, Aya Kamaya, a radiology physician and professor at Stanford Medical School, recently was inducted as a fellow of the American Institute of Medical and Biologic Engineering (AIMBE.) AIMBE recognizes the top 2 percent of biomedical engineers, and Aya was elected for “her pioneering work on ultrasound contrast imaging systems and novel ultrasound contrast mechanisms applied to body imaging.” Congratulations, Aya!
Doug Kirsch received the 2026 Excellence in Education award from the American Academy in Sleep Medicine. “I’ve been in Charlotte, North Carolina, now for 12 years, since sadly departing Boston; generally enjoying the weather and Southern hospitality with my wife and two children. I’ve been running the ever-growing sleep medicine program here in North Carolina and Georgia for the health system, which currently includes the Wake Forest University medical group. I had a long-delayed academic book finally published last year, which will likely put the reader to sleep.” Ha ha.
Rob Milbourne has moved to London after 19 years in Brisbane, where he worked in international law focused on mining. He coaches CEOs and expects to take on more board and advisory roles in his new home. He reflects: “Life is a strange journey. I went through what some call spiritual transformations during the last two years and it was pretty extraordinary. Life on the other side feels very much like the shift after high school or Dartmouth or Duke Law. Something deeply has shifted in how I process the world. There is a sadness in changes and a joy. I wish we could keep the Dartmouth years, but I wouldn’t sacrifice them for all that came after!”
Craig Sakowitz ’93, who graduated with us 31 years ago, has something fun to share. “I am writing to alert the class to the existence of our graduation featuring President Clinton on YouTube! Only uploaded two years ago by ‘J’s Archive,’ a channel described as ‘I go to a lot of yard sales and thrift stores. If I can find an interesting VHS tape for cheap, I’ll buy and digitize it.’ Indeed, J bought the second tape of our Commencement for $2 at a Goodwill. I am guessing one of you or one of your parents donated it! So go to YouTube and look up ‘Dartmouth College 1995 Commencement Ceremony & Bill Clinton Address’ and start commenting. You can use the transcript to even find the exact point in the tape where you shook President Clinton’s hand. Here is the link: https://youtu.be/s9gJcNFXdFo?si=mEeZsex4RdI3J4gi” Thanks, Craig—what a great trip down memory lane.
Keep your news coming!
