Class Note 1993

Issue

July-August 2026

Class Note 1993. Even though we only had one of them, every summer is a wonderful reminder of Sophomore Summer, “Camp Dartmouth.” A few classmates I spoke to demurred from sharing their memories “on the record” but missing classes and streaking were an interesting theme. Moving on….
Martin Hamblin shared that he and his wife, Jean, are professors at University of California, Riverside. Martin is an associate professor of biomedical sciences, vice chair of the division of biomedical sciences, and director of the biomedical sciences master’s program. Martin shared that he takes a “flipped classroom” approach to his teaching, attributing it to the impact of professor John Rassias’ method. Martin recollected staying in Topliff and playing countless pickup basketball games with Rob Yi, Connell Bost, and Benson McGrath during Sophomore Summer.
The class of ’93 hosted more than 90 participants from the classes of ’91, ’92, and ’93 to hear Marshall Billingslea’s take on the Iran conflict and its economic and geopolitical implications. There were too many ’93s in attendance to list them all, but the comments and questions showed the gravity of the issue as well as the engagement our class has with lifelong learning.
That same evening, Roz (Emmett) Nieman’s daughter, Ruby, was performing on American Idol. There were so many ’93s sharing their support on social media and in the voting.
Pam Henes hosted an event in New York City to support Angus King III’s campaign for governor of Maine. In attendance were several other ’93s, including Carolyn Cantor, Doug Chia, Roberta DiGiorgio, Sandy Osborne, and Sharon Tomao.
