Class Note 1980
Issue
July-August 2026
Class Note 1980. Now is a time of connecting and reconnecting: “’80s Connect,” mini-reunions, the “80th Day of the Year,” the Oscar preview hosted by Ty Burr, renewing old friendships and making new ones.
Richard von Riesen wants to know where you are. If you have died, you need to tell Richard. If you cannot be bothered, rouse yourself and tell him. If you do not want the College to know where you are, Richard can keep a secret.
Richard Bagley attended an 80th Day event in Los Altos, California. Richard has worked as a compiler engineer. I do not know what this means, but if you connect with Richard, he can explain it. Patrice Gelband, an artist who has served as the exhibition coordinator for the Portola Valley Arts Fest, was there as well. So was Chuck Muenzen, who retired from a long career in the insurance industry. Other people were there, but unlike Captain Renault in Casablanca, I do not want to round up the usual suspects.
Keith Quinton attended the Hanover 80th Day gathering. He is an independent trustee at Eaton Vance Funds. Keith was an early adopter of the blending of quantitative and fundamental processes. Connect with Keith and ask him to explain. Also in Hanover was Will Torrey, chair and professor of psychiatry at Geisel. So too was Joe Misiewicz, a family medicine doctor in Meredith, New Hampshire.
Bob Wait, a longtime independent project consultant in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, attended the Chicago event. Also in the Windy City was Tony Garippo, retired senior vice president of architecture, construction, and facilities for Crate & Barrel, where he had worked since 1995. Tony hopes the future years are blessed with the same good fortune that accompanied him during the last 30. Also in Chicago was Len Robinson, an internal medicine doctor whose patients sing his praises as a good listener who takes his time. Tom Maver, formerly senior legal counsel at NSN-Nokia Solutions and Networks, rounded out the less than usual suspects in Illinois.
Jean Scarrow joined an 80th group on Zoom. As a consultant, Jean partners with nonprofit organizations on strategic planning, fundraising, and general management with an emphasis on sustainability and scalability. Jean has a passion for organizations serving children and youth.
Megan Murray attended the Boston gathering. An American epidemiologist and an infectious disease physician, Megan is the Ronda Stryker and William Johnston Professor of Global Health in the department of epidemiology at the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health. Her current interests include identifying ways to reduce the suffering caused by the health impacts of climate change, especially in low- and middle-income countries. Megan, you have lots of work to do. John Ribaudo, another doctor, joined the Boston group. Although Boston was once John’s home, he has spent much of his life in California. Rick Rundell, an architect and technologist focused on innovation in the building industry, was part of the Beantown group.
May we all find ways to connect, including with Social Security and Medicare.
