Class Note 1970

Issue

July-August 2026

Class Note 1970. We salute ’70 classmates with last names David, Davies, and Davis who were also M.D.’s, J.D.’s, or Ph.D.’s.
Richard David kicks off with two first names. He earned his M.D. at Duke Medical School and became a neonatologist at Cook County Hospital in Chicago. His wife, Christiane Stahl, is also an M.D. from Duke. They have three children.
DeWitt Davies did graduate study in marine environments at Stony Brook University on Long Island, New York. He retired six years ago with his wife, Nancy, who worked there too. He writes, “I’ve spent 59 years studying environmental issues in Suffolk County (with a Ph.D. in coastal oceanography) and studying aquatic habitat restoration and access to marine space for private shellfish aquaculture. As for my personal life, we have two daughters and four grandchildren. We cherish spending time with them in Maryland and Virginia. Classmate George Remmer lives nearby. We have been friends for 59 years, reminisce about Dartmouth, and still enjoy our long history of fishing, hunting, and shellfishing along the island’s south shore.”
Douglas Davies became a lawyer and worked in the office of the general counsel at Mobil Oil Corp. in Fairfax, Virginia. He lives in Potomac, Maryland.
Gary Davis also became a lawyer and was a partner in Vorys, Sater, Seymour and Pease. He lives in Worthington, Washington. He has two children.
Randy Davis writes: “I got my Ph.D. in artificial intelligence at Stanford in 1976 and became an MIT professor in 1978. I’m still enjoying it 48 years later, kept fresh by each new crop of amazing students. In the 1990s I got intrigued by how the law didn’t seem to understand software and served as an expert to the court in what turned out to be a seminal case that changed software copyright. My wife (a neuropsychologist) and I live in Weston, Massachusetts, with at least one boxer, find exotic places to visit and scuba dive, and do research together on more accurate ways to detect cognitive decline.”
