Class Note 1955

Issue

July-August 2026

Class Note 1955. Here it is the end of April, and we have these notes for your summer reading. We will have had the 250th celebration of the birth of our country. Activities are ramping up here in the greater Philadelphia area as well they should. June reunions and graduation are complete, and we have just heard Rachel Dratch ’88 will be the Commencement speaker in Hanover. Men’s hockey won the ECAC for the first time in some years but was eliminated from the playoffs by Wisconsin, which would go on to play in the championship final. Men’s basketball hired a new coach with strong credentials from Stanford. “It’s about time,” a classmate fan commented. Football completed its spring drills with positive reports of readiness for the upcoming season.
John Braestrup has moved into a retirement home, as have several of us now. Others continue to age in place, which is also a good choice. Bob Morton was forced out of his apartment for six weeks by a flood from a burst water pipe in the apartment above. Same thing happened here to me, but I did not have to move out. Joe Mathewson took a break from teaching and is looking to do another quarter in the fall to mark 30 years there at Northwestern School of Journalism. Judy and George Fenzl have endured the rainstorms OK in Hawaii and are looking forward to seeing the sun again. Iris Fanger, widow of Bob Fanger, spent her usual month in south Florida and then was treated to a week in Paris, where she enjoyed several art exhibits and bistro dining.
I also offer a gentle reminder to consider positively this year’s Dartmouth College Fund. This year we aim to restore our historic 55-percent rate. It’s also a good time to see about using your required minimum distribution for a qualified charitable donation.
Sadly, we report the passing of Ray LenhardJr., M.D.
