Class Note 1974

Issue

May-June 2026

Class Note 1974. Peter Holden was inspired to share: “So here I am 51 years later, and I still have nothing to say about myself. I do have two great stories to tell about our esteemed classmates Mike Draznik and Steve Furber. They are way too humble to brag about themselves.” Due to DAM word limits, check out the class newsletter to read those great stories. Not one to be deterred by a damn word limit, Peter told me: “Now you want to shorten my brilliant essay. Let’s get my complete message in both the DAM and the newsletter.” One out of two.
Ten classmates agreed to be interviewed back in February by Sociology 92 students researching the economic and job markets faced after Dartmouth. Thanks Norman Brown, David Grant, Gregory Hannah, Ron Heier, Jack Huisman, Jeff Simpson, Rick Thatcher, Johnie Tillman, Sedrick Tydus, and R. Owen Williams. Check out our class website for outcomes of the inaugural Sociology 92 class and news of our class health equity projects.
Thinking ahead to our 55th reunion June 2029? No? Well, start! It’s never too early to call classmates and rally them for our gathering.
Got books? I highly recommend Dartmouth associate professor of sociology Emily Walton’s “tightly and sensitively argued” Homesick: Race and Exclusion in Rural New England, which“helps us better understand how to recognize and unsettle … processes of exclusion in diversifying spaces.” What are you reading?
Send news please.
