Class Note 1955

Issue

May-June 2026

Class Note 1955. You’re going to read this in May thinking of that burst of spring that comes with Green Key or even graduation and June reunions. All that while a good portion of us are digging out from the blizzards at the end of February. Thomas Boswell reminds us “that all time begins on opening day.” Spring training is in progress and the Dodgers are liable to repeat as champs but keep your eye on the Blue Jays. Dartmouth baseball is on its annual trip to warmer climes. They’ll play in North Carolina and Louisiana and stop in Annapolis, Maryland, on the way back to Hanover to play Navy.
Hod Symes checks in from St. Joseph, Missouri, that their traveling days are behind him and Mabel, and they are settled there and will not spend the summer in Vermont or winter in Florida. Hod continues his community service with Rotary as does your scribe. Most of his trips these days are to PT and the doctor’s office as are mine. Al Van Huyck reports from Loudoun County, Virginia, that he and Betty celebrated their 70th anniversary last year and are looking forward to their 71st. He also stays active in the community and is the CEO of a company he started to restore historic cemeteries. Your notes and emails are welcome. I need to hear from you with some news. I will add that by the time you read this, my odometer has clicked over to 93. I guess I am okay although I have never been 93 before.
I also offer a gentle reminder to consider positively this year’s Dartmouth College Fund. We did very well last year with contributions, not so well with participation. This year let’s all get behind restoring our historic 55-percent rate. It’s also a good time to see about using your required minimum distribution for a qualified charitable donation.
