Class Note 1999. Hello, ’99s!
I hope you made the most of winter and that spring is off to a great start. I have two updates to share with you.
First, Sarah McCoy has inspired high school students so deeply that she won the Sloan Award for Excellence in Teaching Science and Mathematics. Sarah teaches AP courses on computer science principles and physical applications at Curtis High School in New York City. Sarah discovered her passion for teaching after Dartmouth through AmeriCorps and the N.Y.C. teaching fellows program. Sarah created a four-year, project-based curriculum at her school that exposes her students to programming, robotics, web design, and engineering and culminates in a specialist career and technical education diploma when they graduate. Congratulations, Sarah!
Nathaniel Fick has also inspired others. Nathaniel returned to Dartmouth to speak with students in November as part of the Rockefeller Center’s “Law and Democracy: The United States at 250” speaker series. Nathaniel shared his experience in public service, which began in the Marine Corps following a talk he attended at Rocky when he was at Dartmouth. Nathaniel continued a career in public service, which included serving as ambassador at large for the U.S. Department of State Bureau of Cyberspace and Digital Technology in the Biden administration. Nathaniel discussed the role of technology in the military and the importance of innovation and immigration to make that happen.
It is amazing to see ’99s sharing their experiences and paving the way for future generations. That’s all the news for now, but I look forward to sharing more updates with you soon!
