Class Note 1964
Issue
March - April 2026
Class Note 1964. Steve Bletcher was on hand in the Upper Valley in May to celebrate the opening of the new sailing club facilities on Lake Mascoma in Enfield, New Hampshire.
While you might not think that Dartmouth in the woods would be a sailing powerhouse, the Big Green won both the women’s and coed national championships in 1992, has been consistently ranked within the top 10 teams in the country for many years, and finished third (out of 36 qualified competitors) in the open national championships this year, beating all Ivy League competitors and trailing only Stanford and Navy. When we were students, we travelled on our own dime to competitions in Boston; Providence, Rhode Island; New London, New Hampshire; Maine; Annapolis, Maryland; Chicago; and New Orleans.
We were quite proficient at hitchhiking with our Dartmouth jackets. Class of ’64s active on the team in those years included Tad Kiefaber and Gil Kruschwitz as well as Steve. In addition to these three, the ’64s supporting the friends of Dartmouth sailing include Jay Evans, Tony Lott, Mike Goldenberg, Bob Bayer, Ron Kinsey, andSusan Wright. Thanks, Steve, for your great support of Dartmouth sailing.
David Putnam Jr. and his wife, Elaine, enjoy the beautiful and peaceful region of Twin Falls, Idaho, where they have lived since 2011. They are not far from a daughter in Pleasant View, Utah, and a daughter in Bountiful, Utah. Elaine enjoys knitting, reading, and learning about the pioneers. David is helping people learn about their family history at the Twin Falls Family Search Center. He invites anyone coming his way to call (208) 944-9265. Thanks for the update, David.
