Class Note 1955
Issue
March-April 2026
Class Note 1955. It’s the end of December amid snow and ice storms and rain and floods as these notes are done for your reading in March. We now know that the government is open, Dartmouth football did not repeat as Ivy champions, and the Dodgers won the World Series.
Looking ahead, we have Major League spring training and the start of the season, basketball Final Four, and the men’s and women’s lacrosse at Dartmouth. From Hanover we learned that two from the class of 2025 have been named Rhodes scholars. In addition, early-decision results have been sent to applicants with the additional information that financial aid now accounts for 78 percent of the cost at Dartmouth.
There’s more than that of course, but 2026 promises to be an interesting and exciting year. Will the Dodgers repeat? How will the mid-term elections go and the admissions decisions in the spring?
As usual, Dick Aberle led the Christmas card mailings with a cheerful card from his retirement lodgings at Freedom Village, West Brandywine, Pennsylvania, now in his 21st year there! We are also glad to report that after a period postsurgery and then rehab, Jack Doyle is back and attending to our class business as before. His annual account statement was in our last class newsletter. Class dues are due, and a tear-off tab will be in the newsletter. Your notes and emails are welcome. I need to hear from you with some news!
I also offer a gentle reminder to consider positively this year’s Dartmouth College Fund. We did very well last year with contributions, not so well with participation. This year let’s all get behind restoring our historic 55-percent rate. It’s also a good time to see about using your required minimum distribution for a qualified charitable donation.
Sadly, we report the passing of Roger Dolliver and Charles N. Williams.
