Class Note 1950. First off and foremost, a report on the 75th reunion: Attendees were Bill Carpenter and son Bill ’74, Joel Leavitt and Veda Decof, Dotty McCulloch and Stacey, Susan and Kent Mitchel, Joan McIlwain and son Robert ’81, Tom Ruggles and Rebecca, Meredith and Doug Smith, Barbara Veghte Fowler and Elizabeth ’92, Bob Wilkinson and Amy ’78 and Monty.
It all started with a delightful bus ride all around campus seeing places and buildings I had never seen before. Then there was a wonderful dinner with three other reuning classes at the Hanover Inn (where most every event took place), highlighted by a magnificent concert by the male singers formerly known as the Injunaires, who serenaded us with all the wonderful Dartmouth songs we remember of yore.
This was followed by various meetings throughout the three days of delightful weather and culminating in a short meeting led by our only officer, Doug Smith. It was decided we would consider the usual fall mini-reunion coupled around a football weekend this year. He notes that the weekend of October 2 is taking shape, with four classmates indicating they will come.
Terri Carpenter (faithful news supplier) reports all’s well, with the first snow of the season at 12 inches and good neighbors with shovel and blower to “dig us out.”
Jilly Harned (faithful news supplier No. 2) writes of spending Thanksgiving with her East Coast family and Christmas with her West Coast family. Jilly reminisces when Jack was on all fours wrapping gifts and how the grandchildren will enjoy this special day merging all the family traditions.
I received notes from Stephanie “Toots” Reininger and “Rusty” Rodriguez, who says of my projected trip to Cozumel, Mexico: “Have a good time. Be good—or not.” She just spent a week on Cape Cod, Massachusetts—wonderful! A final salute to Joel Leavitt: Thank you from the scribe for a carton of “Florida sunshine”—oranges aplenty.
