Class Note 1976

Class Note 1976. Hello, classmates. By now you should have received invitations to fill in your page for our 50th reunion (June 12-14) yearbook. It’s easy to do and the resulting pages are delightful to read. We accomplished so much in our four years in Hanover, and after reading some of the yearbook updates, we were clearly just getting started. If you did not receive an invitation to contribute, please email me and I’ll get you set up. Also, for those wondering if the book will be printed, the word is possibly. We need at least 50 classmates who want hard copies to make sense financially. More to come on that. Also, the book stays open through our reunion weekend, so it will become a keepsake with pictures from that major event. Your reunion committee is working hard to make this memorable for us all. Please jump on and be an early adopter.
In other news you may have missed, the College’s alumni relations office and the Class Officers Association executive board selected the class of 1976 to receive a 2026 Class Recognition Award. “Your class’s work not only strengthens the bond between alumni and the College but also serves as a model for other classes,” says executive board vice president Rick Routhier ’73, brother of Steve Routhier.
You’ll probably see this in our class newsletter, assembled and edited so beautifully by Jim Burns, but it bears repeating by Jim Beattie:“The class of 1976 shines again. Our class delivered extraordinary results for the Dartmouth College Fund campaign that closed on June 30, 2025. To start, we had an impressive 33.3-percent participation, building momentum toward an ‘all in’ attitude for 2026. Can we make it 50 percent for our 50th? Together, we raised $522,098, surpassing our class goal of $425,000. With the exception of our 40th reunion, this is the highest total since 2011. This remarkable success reflects the loyalty and generosity of our ’76 classmates. It sets the stage for an even more exciting milestone—our 50th reunion in June. To start this year, the class reunion gift was amazingly $1.76 million. We have 20 classmates who have already pledged $50,000 or more toward this reunion total. Let’s continue to make history together. With everyone joining in, we can achieve something truly extraordinary.”
The epic ski-every-month achievement Bruce York started more than 10 years ago came to an end last summer and will forever stand at 125 consecutive months. Bruce halted the string on his own, not due to injury or age, which is certainly a testament to his discipline and staying in shape.
Hope (Stevens) and King Poor and Jimand Martha (Johnson) Beattie spent a week at Kim and CarolBemis’ranch in Wyoming last August. They had great hiking, good fishing, and obediently wore their bear bells. The Beatties also enjoyed Homecoming in mid-October with Cathy (Joyce) and Jack Brennan and Sara (Hoagland) and Andy Hunter.
Ciao for now. Please send news of yourself or other classmates to steve@stevebellcommunications.com.
