Class Note 1969
Issue
January-February 2026
Class Note 1969. Let’s be honest: Most of us glance at Class Notes to see who’s mentioned. We check the obituaries to square up the wins and losses on life’s scoreboard. Autumn leaves have returned to Hanover, and it’s that time again. Here is a fairly accurate list of classmates who connected at “ComingHome.” If I missed you, contact me!
Members attending via Zoom included Bruce Alpert, Peter Beekman, Joe Campbell, Allen Denison, Steve Larson, John Myers, Richard Saunders, Peter Schaeffer, and Bob Sturges. Members attending in person included Sandy Alderson, Henry Allen, Mark Anderson, John Beck, Phil Bush, William Coulson, Peter Crosby, Peter Elias, James Ennis, Arthur Fergenson, Jill Ford, Jay “Yogi” Glaser, Dick Glovsky, Dona Heller, Bill Howell, Norm Jacobs, Dudley Kay, John Leavitt, John Mathias, Doug Nichols, Peter Schenck, Bill Stableford, Jim Staros, John “Tex” Talmadge, Randy Wallick, Rick Willets, and Susan Wright.
On this roster you’ll find someone you never knew at Dartmouth. Every ’69 who comes home to Dartmouth speaks not so much of nostalgia as of discovery, meaning, emotional uplift, and a deep new sense of knowing. I have watched and studied this for many years, and I swear that this is true. A single new abiding friendship will make your coming home a major life event.
This year’s “ComingHome” generated memorable antics and a lively couple of days. Dartmouth demolished Yale with a field goal as time expired! The class of ’69 tent was an unmatched moveable feast on the boulevard, as always. Conversations ranged from profound to zany to rambling. Peter Elias shot his world-class photos, and those are on the class website. Mathias, Larson, and Talmadge received Outstanding Service Awards. Friday and Saturday evenings we socialized and shared dinner at the DOC House, where the stunning, majestic sculpture by Dimitri Gerakaris now shouts “Vox Clamantis!” above the big fireplace.
Do not miss the class newsletter and our class website! Allen and Peter have created for us two spots where our class connects powerfully beyond this limited Class Notes space. There you can see how vibrant and inviting the class of 1969 continues to be.
