Class Note 1967

January-February 2026

Class Note 1967. As we all embark on our ninth decade, it’s hard not to be impressed by how active our classmates remained in 2025. John Wasson created a podcast, Her Magic Mushroom Memoir, that just won a gold medal; and Jon Dana produced yet another blockbuster film, Ice Road: Vengeance. In August Michael Tucker, Jenny and Bill Lamb, Win Johnson, Susan and John Manaras, Maureen and Steve Cheheyl, Joan and Doug Smith, Sam Ostrow, Linda and Bob Umbdenstock, Sandy von Unwerth and Bill Sjogren, and Kathy and Bob Hession got together for the annual picnic at Quechee, Vermont. We had a great turnout at the hotly contested 26th Rich Paolino Open at the Rhode Island Country Club, featuring the foursome of Larry Bowen, Paul Killebrew, Rosanne Lobitz, and Tom Grove and the threesomes of John Lobitz, Russ Hoverman, and John Meck and Sam Ostrow, Bill Kirkpatrick, and Joe Alviani. Post-match festivities drew Sharleen Bowen, Joyce Killebrew, Jan Meck, Ed and Pris Kern, Rob and Marilyn Edwards, John and Susan Manaras, Steve and Maureen Cheheyl, Doug and Joan Smith, Bill and Susie White, Dave Larson, Annette Coulter, Michael Tucker, and Ted Neil. Prior to the golf, Lobitz reconnected with Hoverman and Buzz Land in Vermont to reminisce about their 1966 epic, 12-week European road trip. Homecoming in Hanover saw Pete Nistad, Wayne Beyer, Larry and Sharleen Bowen, and John Manaras marching ever closer to the head of the parade. Our class media editors are besieged by very active exchanges about the College’s response to the demands being made on higher education. Following on the success of the Class of 1967 Bunkhouse at the Ravine Lodge, Ed Kern spearheaded the installation of the Class of 1967 Weather Station on Moosilauke’s South Peak and is now engaged in building support for replacing the failing bridge that connects folks from the Lodge to the trails leading to the summit. Harnessing all that energy, we have begun making plans for our class of 1967 60th reunion in Hanover June 14-17, 2027. Monitor 1967.dartmouth.org to learn more. Plus save the date as an expression of your optimism and good health!
