Class Note 1965

Class Note 1965. It was a beautiful fall weekend for our mini-reunion, made all the more memorable by a quite miraculous, last-second football win over Yale. By the time you read this, that will be ancient history, although the fellowship memories will remain. We had 15 classmates make the trek to Hanover, accompanied by 13 faithful partners to put up with our antics. We opened with a reception and dinner in Rockefeller Center, to be followed by the traditional bonfire celebration on the Green. I say “to be” as the prolonged drought in New Hampshire caused the bonfire to be replaced by an equally impressive laser light show. Saturday morning was spent viewing our class gift of the Lone Pine sculpture at its new home in the DOC House, followed by a tour of the beautiful Pine Park in Hanover led by Linda Fowler. Dinner was at our traditional location of Pierce’s Lodge. Sunday morning our annual class meeting was held at Pierce’s to conclude our weekend. Classmates attending the weekend included Rich Beams, Mike Bettman, Dave Beattie, Steve Fowler, Pete Frederick, Mike Gonnerman, Jim Griffiths, Roger Hansen, Stu Keiller, Rick Leach, Bob Murphy, Mike Rodgers, George Wittreich, Allen Zern, and Bob Ziemian.
Of note at the class meeting was the appearance of Mike Gonnerman, Roger Hansen, and Bob Murphy in class of 2025 sweaters. These were a gift of ’15 to those three ’65s for managing the program that pairs the entering class (’15) with the class (’65) that will celebrate its 50th reunion at the entering class’s graduation. Bob Murphy noted that his grandfather’s 1915 class celebrated its 50th at our graduation, and that this program began our tradition of monthly breakfasts, which continues in several locations.
Other business conducted included the announcement of Stu Keiller as our new president, with other officers continuing in place. Our 60th was our final College-supported June “five-year” reunion, so in the future our fall minis will be it. Mike Bettman has agreed to chair next fall’s event. The full minutes of the meeting may be found on our website at www.biggreen65.com.
