Class Note 1960. Our class constitution was amended to replace class officers with an executive board. For details, go to the class of 1960 website at https://1960.dartmouth.org.
DuncanMathewson writes, “After many years considering how to do it, Arlene and I are making a permanent move back to the Florida Keys. Living in Vermont during the last 15 years has been good, but the winters have become too much of a discomfort and have taken away too much of the ‘Caribbean soul’ we thrive on in Key West. My only regret is that I will miss my periodic visits to the College and lunches with classmates still hunkering down in the woods throughout the Upper Valley. The Abenaki book I started in 2010 is finally done and will ideally see the light of day, published by the University of Nebraska Press. A new book effort with two collaborators now underway tells the inside story of how Mel Fisher found his great Atocha $500-million treasure, as told by divers and staff in interviews with his Atocha ‘Golden Crew.’ It has been great fun compiling an oral history behind all the glitz and glitter built up by the ‘half-truths and true lies’ from those who struggled together on the salvage boats for those many years across 30 miles at sea.” During our 65th reunion class meeting PhilKron addressed President Beilock: “I would like to present this check to you for $1,339,677 on behalf of the class of 1960 in celebration of our 65th reunion. This is the 20th consecutive year that our class has set a year-out record, surpassing the existing record by 69 percent! Also, the class set a new participation record of 73.7 percent, exceeding 70 percent for a 22nd consecutive year. These are records that should stand the test of time. Finally, our 122 Bartlett Tower Society membership exceeds that of any other class by 33. These exceptional results in support of Dartmouth College have been made possible by our extremely generous classmates. We thank them.”
