Class Note 1956
Issue
January-February 2026
Class Note 1956. Attending the class celebration of Homecoming were Linc Spaulding and Robin, Tom Rosenwald and Abbey, Jack Billhardt and Pat, Tom Bechler and Kim, Jack Crowley and Suzanne, Jack Tamagni and Judy, and Bob Dumont and Barbara. Although the sacred fire on the Green was never lit as ordered by the State of New Hampshire due to extreme dry conditions, our classmates witnessed a spectacular football game with Yale won by Dartmouth in the last few seconds, 17-16.
Harry Nutting favors us with several of his latest verses (below).
I went outside to do some rakin’
And discovered my rake had been taken.
What could I do?
It was already half-past two,
So, I made myself a tomato, lettuce, and bacon.
I love Roseanne Roseannadanna.
She’s the girl of my dreams and manana,
She’s cute as a bug, I wanna give her a hug,
We’re getting married next week in Montana.
Those of you who watched Saturday Night Live some years ago will remember Gilda Radner, who created the character Roseanne Roseannadanna. She was a very talented comedian who left us much too soon.
Our class reporter stationed in bucolic Vermont, Charlie Morrissey, informs us that while reading Walking to Vermont by Christopher Wren ’57, he learned of a person named Harry with no second name, a member of the class of 1956, who told Chris that walking from Times Square in New York City to a retirement home in Thetford, Vermont, was a “big mistake. Don’t let your ego get in the way of making you feel that you are less than a man if you don’t make this odyssey by foot. Rather, you could make a slow trip by pickup truck or old van with your wife and really enjoy your passage into retirement.”
Words of the day: snollygoster, a shrewd, unprincipled person, especially a politician; tohubohu, a state of chaos; utter confusion. We have the first, who is well equipped to cause the second.
H.L. Mencken wrote: “Journalism is to politician as dog is to lamp-post.”
With sadness I report the passing of Ronald A. Driscoll, certified life underwriter.
