Class Note 2002. Hello, ’02s!
Kate Siber’s latest book is scheduled to come out October 21 from Quarto. The book, The Hidden Wisdom of Animals, is about what we can learn from wildlife for our own lives and blends science, true anecdotes, and cultural lore from around the world. What if we truly saw animals as our teachers? For example, from owls, which have some of the best hearing of anything that moves, we could learn how to deeply listen. From bears, which hibernate, we could learn how to rest and tune our bodies to the seasons. The book aims to inspire a deeper sense of non-transactional, non-possessive relatedness with the natural world and is written for elementary-age children with layers of meaning for adults as well!
Sarah (Myers) Pingree and Tracy Keller kindly responded to my last-minute plea for updates this week. Sarah shared, “We threw our au pair a college-themed 21st birthday party earlier this summer that was attended by several Dartmouth and Tuck alumni as well as their children and a gaggle of Swedish au pairs. Everyone came in their vintage collegiate best or dressed as an animal (a spin on Animal House). The (water) pong was so popular with the kids that we had to eventually kick them off the table. Also, I am the organizer for a Women of Dartmouth dinner group, which has been so much fun despite being the oldest one in the group by more than a decade. I highly recommend signing up for a dinner group if you haven’t done so before.” You can find out more information about Women of Dartmouth on its website: women.dartmouth.org.
Tracy added, “After 15-plus years, I’m still deeply engaged in the ski racing world and continue to bump into Dartmouth classmates along the way. Sarah (Myers) Pingree and I catch up on a regular basis in Warren, Vermont, where she and her family are renovating and restoring their house at Sugar Hills Farm. I’ve also recently crossed paths with Anne Sosin and Rebecca (Eley) Weeks through New England’s winter sport community. I’ve also learned that Katy Cuneo and her husband, Sean O’Mara, have recently moved to Raleigh, North Carolina, and they’d love to connect with fellow Dartmouth alumni in the area.”
Speaking of North Carolina, after seven years in New York city, Kari Hacker and her husband, Justin Brown, recently moved back to Durham. Kari continues her work as a gynecologic oncologist at University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill, where her sister, Kate (Hacker) Gessner ’07, is a urologic oncologist.
Lonnie Threatte wrote, “Dartmouth, set a watch! Class of ’02, our silver anniversary approaches—25 years in 2027 (Thursday-Sunday, June 17-20). In order to make this reunion as amazing as it should be, we need to organize our reunion planning committee. If you are willing to serve, please write dartmouth.class.of.2002@gmail.com.”
Thanks for the updates, ’02s!
