Class Note 1977. Our class August 70th birthday celebration in Santa Fe, New Mexico, was a master class in how to throw a great party attended by all your friends doing many fun things while learning and experiencing the wonders of a magical culture in a magical spot. Six years in the making (thank you, Covid), the event was impeccably planned and executed by cochairs TedLapres and AmyCholnoky with the help of committee members ChuckDana, Leslie Bradford, Nancy Vespoli, Cathy Burnweit, Edy Ullman, Gloria Martinez,MarkHarris, and moi.
Scores of additional ’77s enthusiastically participated, including Scott Andrews, Larry Appel, Diane Arsenault, Mark Carlie, Mike Choukas, Jenny Clarke, David Cutler, Susan Dentzer, Paul Detwiler, Rob Duncan, Alan Folz, Susan Gabrels, Gail Gentes, Betsy Gile, Robin Gosnell, Jim Guth, Tim Hable, Phil Hanlon, Carla Persons Hatfield, Al Henning, Charlie Hoffmann, Mike Huffman, Doug Ireland, Liz Kadin, Nicole Lewis-Oakes, Frank Long, Andrea Kormann Lowe, Orville Lunking, Marty Milligan, Peter Mills, Chris Morris, Carol Muller, Bill Narin, Pam Gruninger Perkins, Kathy Phillips, Glenn Pogust, Ted Pollard, Penny Rashin, Jean Rosston, Gina Tugwell Russo, Tom Russo, Gary Schillhammer, Rob Sholl, Dee Dee Simpson, Eric Smith, Michelle Stacy, Jeff Stone, John Storella, Paul Storfer, Bill Stout, Betsy Fauver Stueber, Lucy Townsend, Nelson Valverde, Mike Walsh, Don Wiviott, Alan Wolf, Sandy Wood, BambiMosenthalWood, and KimRosenauYork. DaveHaraway and KatieBurdett gave it their all to attend but could not.
In addition, a game coterie of spouses and partners joined the fun, which included the stunning outdoor Santa Fe Opera, lodgings at historic La Fonda on the Plaza, tours of the Georgia O’Keeffe (GOK) Museum, and a walking tour of the town with a local historian. The Hood’s associate director, Jami Powell, introduced us to the spectacular Niman Gallery, and we made simultaneous pilgrimages to Bandelier National Monument near Los Alamos and GOK’s Abiquiu home.
Although positively inundated with local culture, there was still capacity for hiking, biking, hot air ballooning, whitewater rafting, and playing golf as well as evening receptions and lots of time to quaff a beverage, catch up with an old friend, or make a new one whether at the Rail Yard downtown listening to Trombone Shorty or just hanging out in the class suite. Saturday evening at the Palace of the Governors, the entire assemblage toasted our dear friend Dan Mahony, who died days before the trip and was buried that morning.
Which compels me to implore you to mark your calendar for mid-June 2027 (dates TBD) for our 50th reunion in Hanover. No excuses, no regrets. We are already lining up an all-star team to make our 50th equally spectacular. And don’t forget to complete your BrightCrowd digital yearbook page!
