Class Note 1976. Hello, classmates. From our 50th reunion leadership triumvirate of Fern Bennett, Nic Cols, and Kipp Barker:“As we approach six months out, it’s never too late to go to your first reunion. Our 50th reunion digital book is open via BrightCrowd, so please enter your stories. If you lost or never received links, contact dartmouthreunionteam@gmail.com. The reunion team has been working hard behind the scenes, but we still can use your help and ideas. It is not too late to volunteer or send in ideas to the above email. And let the team know if you need help to track down classmates you would like to contact to tell them you are coming. Please return your survey from Kipp. Reunion cost and registration information will be sent soon. Registration for the reunion and on-campus housing will open in March. The College will accommodate housing for all of us and our guests.”
Shoun Kerbaugh sent news of his visit with classmates and College friends to Gettysburg, Pennsylvania, extolling the service of Daniel Webster’s son, Fletcher, during the Civil War. A mixed group of Dartmouth alumni visited the site of the battle of 2nd Manassas on May 22, when they gathered around the marker in honor of Col. Fletcher Webster on Chinn Ridge, where he died during the third day of the battle. Webster served in the 12th Massachusetts Volunteer Infantry. The unit was known in the Army of the Potomac as “The Webster Regiment” in honor of its commander. Webster was mortally wounded on Chinn Ridge August 30, 1862. In addition to Shoun, the group consisted of Bob Freidl and John Reidy;’77s Steve Lentine, Tom Barnico, Bill Ablondi, Stan Raggio, David Van Vliet, Joey Gleason; and Paul Centenari ’79. In addition to visiting 2nd Manassas, the group saw the site of 1st Manassas as well as the Antietam battlefield in Sharpsburg, Maryland.
Dr. Brita Reed Lucey met up with Lisa Khan ’75 and Pam Schlobohm ’75 during their 50th reunion in June. Lisa and Brita were friends from their chemistry classes and Pam was Brita’s friend from North Mass. “We all enjoyed Sandra Oh at Commencement. We’re looking forward to our 50th in June 2026!” Lois Gadway Tow heeded the call to report on a freshman trip: “My freshman trip mates were Jamie Bergford, Jeff Kirchhoff, and Noel Kropf. We hiked in the Pemigewasset Wilderness and over Mount Carrigan. I think we got a little bit lost at one point. Most memorable for me was our trip leader, Bruce Tow ’74, who has been my husband for 51 years!” They got married in June 1974 at Aquinas House and lived in married student housing at Sachem Village while Lois finished her degree. “Bruce says that some freshman trip leaders were reluctant to lead coed trips. He was thrilled that Dartmouth had gone coed and didn’t hesitate to lead a coed trip. Neither of us went on that trip expecting to find a life partner, but we did!” Ciao for now. Please send news of yourself or other classmates to steve@stevebellcommunications.com.
