Class Note 1969

Class Note 1969. Longtime friends and classmates Bill Love, Clark Doran, and George Cooke hiked the Bold Coast Trail in Cutler, Maine. The trail winds along the Atlantic coast for almost five miles of dramatic cliff-bound hiking. Think Acadia National Park without the crowds! Bill reports that the weather, fellowship, and views were perfect. We’ve submitted photos to the class newsletter and website.
Tex Talmadge and Bruce Alpert scored MLB tickets for two Yankees games in Texas. They also visited historical Old Parkland and the Barbier-Mueller Museum’s Iron Men: The Artistry of Iron in Samurai Armor. (The Yankees could have used some of that armor against the villainous Texas Rangers.)
Chris Hu and Tex made good on their pledge to get together following the last reunion, and they enjoyed a day on Upper Saranac Lake in the Adirondacks, as well as a gourmet dinner at historical Camp Topridge in the shadow of Mount St. Regis. Next: trout fishing in Vermont!
Many of us wish for a mini-reunion like the annual gathering around Labor Day hosted by Tom Parks in Maine. Tom Cronan reports that scheduled attendees included Tom Weldy, Gary Day, Dave Boyle, Dimitri Gerakaris, Mark Schleicher, Gary Goodenough, Jim Treadway, Tupper Kinder, Dan Cooperman, and Scott McGinness. Look for photos and tall tales in an upcoming edition of the ’69 Times.
Cronan, Goodenough, Treadway, and Kinder then went golfing in Scotland. What a life! Tucked in Cronan’s bag is a copy of Donald Trump’s Guide to Championship Golf.
Over our strenuous objection, the magazine cuts our Class Notes space as we get older. Vox clamantis in protestatione! So make note! Your class newsletter and website include upcoming events, essays, reflections, travel updates, photographs, and reports on class activities. Allen Denison (newsletter) and Peter Elias (website) curate news and a remarkable collection covering all things ’69.
Our programs on Zoom continue to draw crowds, often dozens of classmates. Look up “Casual Conversations,” the “’69 Social Hour,” “12-Step Baker Bunch,” the Jewish Culture Group, and dramatic performances by the Traveling Dartmouth Players. Send Tex email or text with questions.
