Class Note 2012
Issue
March-April 2022
Hi, all! Happy to be in this little space even as the pandemic continues to roll on. I haven’t spent much time at our alma mater in ages but was very happy earlier this year to make a day trip to Hanover. There, I caught up with Manisha Apte, DMS’16, for a walk around Occom Pond—she’s thriving as a gastrointestinal fellow at Dartmouth-Hitchcock. During the course of a lovely spring day, I also found time for Umpleby’s sandwiches and Molly’s margs with Heather Roland, John Shi, Cathy Chen ’13, Alison Pierce ’15, and Jared Tagen ’15. While a lot has changed, the Green was full of students and it was just still so darn nice to walk around campus.
On to the notes!
Christopher Chavis, based in D.C., has been rising in the ranks at the National Indian Health Board during the past year and is now serving as the organization’s policy center director. Since his time at Dartmouth Christopher has also earned his J.D. from Michigan State University College of Law as well as a master’s of public administration at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Cheers to Christopher for his advocacy!
Claire and Justin Lashley welcomed a newborn daughter last year, Louisa May Lashley. “Lulu” was born on November 30, 2020, at 5:51 p.m. at Lenox Hill Hospital in N.Y.C., weighing in at 7 pounds, 3 ounces. They are thrilled to be her parents!
Brian Moon andJessica Yu ’14are engaged after many years of dating, going back to their days as undergrads! I’m so excited for these two lovebirds and can’t wait to see what’s next for them.
Liz Doe Stone and her husband, Zach, welcomed their second son this winter. Baby George is loving life in Lexington, Kentucky, and getting along great with big brother Charlie.
After successfully prosecuting a felony drug case in November, Alfonso Villegas is also running for reelection to the Vermont Bar Association board of managers and is chair of the diversity section for the Vermont Bar Association.
In cross-country move news: Sterling Beard has moved to Dallas, where he’s pursuing an M.B.A. at Southern Methodist University Cox School of Business. Please don’t hesitate to reach out to him if you find yourself in the Dallas-Fort Worth area! And I have just recently moved to Atlanta to lead operations at a startup digital agency—would love to catch up with Dartmouth alumni in the area.
On a serious and sad note, we lost two members of the class of 2012 this past fall, Andrew Malizia and Jorge “George” Bahena, Th’13. The class has made donations in their memory to organizations close to their hearts, and I’m sending wishes of peace to their friends, family, and all of the Dartmouth community who will miss them. For more information and memories, we’ve also included their obituaries in the online issue of the magazine.
Please have a happy and healthy spring and share any updates to 12.class.notes@gmail.com by April 28 to make the May-June issue!
