Class Note 1985
Issue
May-June 2020
I just finished reading our Shades of Green Winter 2020 class newsletter. Coeditors Lisa Sweeney Herrington and Margaret Warram Marder made a bold ask: Would those classmates who have faced serious personal journeys around health challenges share their story? Answer: Yes! They curated (and, in Lisa’s case, contributed) a powerful collection of individual accounts conveying resilience and courage, each one serving as a reminder of our shared humanity. If you have not yet done so, this is a must-read (www.dartmouth85.com).
In the category of classmate updates, Margaret shared the following news on her and husband, David Marder: “Our son got engaged at Thanksgiving and we absolutely love her. Tommy is finishing his M.B.A. in Wharton’s healthcare program this spring and Tara starts her M.B.A. in same program this fall. Wedding is set for June 2021. Our middle daughter, Becky, is a first-grade teacher in Red Hook, Brooklyn—exhausted as you can imagine, but in a great charter school and happily living in the Lower East Side with her boyfriend, cat, and snake. Our youngest, Hannah, lives in L.A. and was just hired as a writer for Buzzfeed, for which she is over the moon! David and I are both working and counting the months to retirement—26 to go!” By the time of this publication, Margaret and David will be down to 21.
Speaking of family expansions, Katie (Harris) and Kris Robbins are preparing for the August nuptials of their oldest daughter, Heidi, at their home in Lyme, New Hampshire. Heidi is in medical school at Dartmouth, which is helping to fade the orange and black tiger stripes she donned as an undergraduate. Allison Shutz Moskow welcomed her first grandchild, Charlotte Lane Moskow, on February 1, born to her oldest son, Zac, and his wife, Becca. Zac is a U.S. Marine Corps officer stationed in Japan. Grandma Allison is hoping to plan a visit overseas to meet sweet baby Charlotte in person, closely monitoring the global travel concerns and restrictions.
I am sure there are many who recall sightings of Sally Crane Goggin dashing across the Green, field hockey stick in hand, to face another challenging opponent on the field. Sally currently serves as national development director for USA Field Hockey. Ordinarily, I would not know this detail. But, in the category of small-world interactions, turns out that I have a friend who is the president of one of the largest manufacturers of field hockey equipment and (obviously) a huge sponsor of USA Field Hockey. Seems Sally’s and my friend’s paths have crossed multiple times—and did so on February 1, just as word spread of the Moskow grandchild birth in Japan. Since my friend has also met Allison through me, that news, in turn, resulted in Sally making the connection back to me and a round of “do you know” got underway. What do you know?
Or rather, who do you know? Do tell us—and send news.
All the best to all of you!
