Christopher E. Coombs ’66

Christopher E. Coombs ’66 passed away on September 24, 2022. Chris had strong ties to Dartmouth—his father, uncle, and two brothers were graduates. At the College he was a member of Alpha Chi Alpha and participated in track and cross country and later served as a longtime alumni admissions interviewer. He met Lindsey Sharp on a blind date at Winter Carnival 1963, and after Chris served in Vietnam, he returned to Dartmouth and they married in 1967. Chris graduated from Tuck in 1970 and went on to a career in technology management. He was CEO of Cairns & Brother, a plastic manufacturer and leading producer of fire helmets, from 1979 to 1994. During his tenure Chris and colleagues were granted numerous patents for safety equipment. He later served as CEO of C2i Advanced Technologies. In recent years he was a Christian Scientist practitioner. Chris is survived by Lindsey and sons John, Joshua, and Stephen.
