Chooi-Lye Ch’ng ’73

Chooi-Lye Ch’ng ’73 died on May 5 in Penang, Malaysia. Chooi came to Dartmouth from the renowned Chung Ling High School in the George Town section of Penang, where he was a three-season athlete on the cross-country, swimming, and soccer teams and served as treasurer of the student government. At the College Chooi lived in Brown Hall and majored in economics. He was a member of the International Students Association and the vice president of the Chinese Student Association. After graduation Chooi returned to Malaysia and began a career as a financial services consultant, working for Citibank N.A. in Kuala Lumpur, the Tat Seng Motor Credit Co., Golden Hill Enterprises, and Solace Resources. In March 1979 Chooi was honored to host his former Dartmouth economics professor William Baldwin and family during their visit to Kuala Lumpur. Chooi was a member of the emergency relief Red Crescent Society and the Junior Chamber International in Penang. He is survived by his wife, Cheng-Hong, and their sons, Kean Tat and Kean Boon.
