Charles Stuart Roth ’54
Charles Stuart Roth ’54 passed away September 5, 2019, in Bloomfield, Colorado. Stu came to Dartmouth from Ossining, New York, after graduating from New York City’s Columbia Grammar and Preparatory School. He left Dartmouth after his freshman year and graduated from Dickinson College in 1954. Stu was the founder and CEO of Ciao Sports, a woman’s sportswear company that manufactured clothing in Kowloon, Hong Kong, and sold goods to department stores and high-end boutiques throughout the United States. Stu was elected as chairman of the National Alzheimer’s Association, serving from 1993 to 1995. During his tenure Stu was responsible for establishing an Alzheimer’s Association lobby in the U.S. Congress to address the need for stem cell research and to bring awareness to the disease. He was instrumental in creating local chapters throughout the United States to provide information and assistance to families and caretakers of Alzheimer’s patients. Stu was survived by his wife, Sandra (since deceased), daughter Alison, sons Eric and David, and four grandchildren.
